- Works of the Flesh Don’t Vanish Instantly: Even after receiving baptism and entering the experience of salvation, the works of the flesh do not disappear immediately. They don’t all go away in a minute or a single day. It takes significant time to completely wash away those deep-rooted old habits and thoughts.
- The Washing of Water by the Word: To continually purify believers, God has gifted the church with apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers. The teaching of the Word they provide acts as a ‘washing of water’ for believers. According to Ephesians 5:26, Christ desires to sanctify the church through the washing of water by the Word.
- The Necessity of Continual Purification: If this washing by the Word does not happen regularly, there is a danger that even saved believers might drift back into their old fleshly works.
