- Personal Experience: Godliness is not an inherited property; it is a personal experience with God. No matter how devout the parents are, children must develop their own relationship with Him. Faith is not in the blood; it must be born in the spirit. Everyone must experience personal repentance.
- The Failure of Eli’s Sons: According to 1 Samuel 2:12, Eli’s sons grew up in the temple but “did not know the Lord.” They understood the rituals but not God’s power or fear. Eli failed to rebuke them effectively and honored his sons above God, bringing a curse upon his house.
- Samuel’s Ministry: Samuel was constantly busy traveling from town to town judging Israel. In his absolute dedication to ministry, there might have been a slight oversight in monitoring his children’s spiritual journey. Consequently, his sons did not follow his path but took bribes and perverted justice.
- The First Ministry: We must remember that our first ministry is our family, no matter how involved we are in service. We must teach children the fear of God.
