🎺 Question: Psalm 47:5 says, “God has gone up with a shout, the Lord with the sound of a trumpet.” According to 1 Thessalonians 4:16, a trumpet will sound when the Lord returns. Did a trumpet sound when the Lord Jesus Christ ascended after His resurrection?
- Sinai Background: The ascension and trumpet sound mentioned in Psalms refer to the events in Exodus 19. When God descended and ascended from Mount Sinai, heavenly trumpets sounded. As God descended in fire, the mountain was covered in smoke and quaked greatly.
- Vibration of Heavenly Trumpets: The trumpet sound grew louder and louder, causing the people to tremble. Since the Creator of the universe was setting foot on earth, heavenly trumpets heralded the King. Terrified by the intensity of the sound, the people fled from God’s presence.
- Ascension of Jesus Christ: When Lord Jesus Christ conquered death and appeared to His disciples before ascending to heaven, no public trumpet sounded. He departed very quietly and subtly.
- The Rapture: Even when He comes to the mid-air for His Church, the world will remain unaware. That trumpet sound will be heard only by the prepared believers (the Bride). The world will not hear the sound but will only witness the resulting tribulations and the disappearance of people.
