⚖️ Question: Some say unity is only possible through doctrinal unity. Yet, in the Corinthian church, which shared the same doctrine, groups were formed saying “I am of Paul” and “I am of Cephas.” Why did unity fail despite having the same doctrine?
- The Barrier of Ego: Even when believers share the same doctrine, unity fails because of ‘Ego.’ Selfish thoughts like “I am not being given priority” or “I am not being recognized” trigger the ego. Even with the same doctrine, this ego acts as a dangerous barrier that destroys unity.
- Division through Leaders’ Names: In Corinth, although believers followed the same truth, they attached earthly leaders’ names to their groups. One said, “I am of Paul,” another “I am of Cephas,” fighting out of ego. This arrogant attitude of “My leader is superior” caused them to lose their unity.
- Satan’s Conspiracy: Even after achieving doctrinal unity, Satan provokes ego in some way to destroy that unity. To overcome this, one must have a broad-minded approach, realizing “We are members of the body of Christ; we must remain united first.” Ophir Ministries has practiced this policy from the beginning.
- Crucify the Ego: Only a person whose ego is dead can possess a broad heart and stay united. In the first chapter of my book ‘Gandragoddali’ (The Battle-Axe), I wrote—”Crucify and kill the beast called Ego.” Only when your ego dies will the nature of Christ and selfless love shine through you. As long as we think “I” am important, we will continue to fight like worldly people.
