💰 Question: Nowadays, in many places, churches appear to be sources of income or personal property for pastors. To whom does the church belong? Is a servant the lord of the church or its servant? What does the Bible say about this?
- Property of Jesus: The church is not the personal property of any pastor; it belongs solely to Jesus. According to 1 Peter 5:3, “nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.” Jesus Christ is the only ‘Lord’ who has authority over the church.
- We are Servants: All men of God are servants to the church, not lords. 1 Corinthians 3:22-23 states clearly—whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas, all are yours (the church’s). You are Christ’s, and Christ is God’s. This is the order established by God; in this, the servant must be at the very bottom, serving everyone.
