🪦 Question: Is it permissible to visit the graves of the deceased? Some say we shouldn’t, so what does the Bible say about this?
- Visiting for Remembrance: You can definitely visit graves. Visiting a grave is a way of honoring the memories of the deceased. Even Jesus visited the tomb of Lazarus and wept there, as seen in John 11:35. Therefore, there is nothing wrong with remembering our loved ones.
- No Worship or Rituals: Visiting should be for remembrance only. It is against the Bible to perform rituals or believe that miracles happen at a grave or that the deceased can do something for us. We do not need to pray to the dead or conduct worship at the graveside.
- Look Towards Heaven: A grave is merely a resting place for the physical body made of dust. Our loved ones are not there; they are in heaven. Therefore, we should look towards heaven rather than the grave. You may visit out of respect, but do not turn it into a form of worship. Worship God alone.
