❓ Question: We are preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ today for salvation. But what about those who lived before the birth of Christ? Was salvation limited only to the Jews/Israelites? How could Gentiles obtain salvation in the Old Testament times?
- Salvation Through Conscience: This is a very insightful question. I have detailed this in my book, Mahima Prapancham (World of Glory). Apostle Paul explains in Romans 2 that for those who lived before Christ or without the Law, their conscience acts as a witness. Their salvation was determined by how they responded to the light they had.
- Not Limited to Israel: The notion that only Israelites go to heaven and all Gentiles go to hell is biblically incorrect. There were saved Gentiles even before the nation of Israel existed. God is not partial; He looks at the heart.
- The Principle of Sacrifice and Grace: From the time of Adam, the principle of salvation was the same: realizing that one cannot become righteous through self-effort but needs God’s grace and a ‘sacrifice’ (Yajna). Those who put their faith in God’s provision and followed the sacrificial systems revealed to them were saved.
- Conclusion: Many non-Jews from the Old Testament period are in heaven. We will meet them there because they trusted in the grace of God that was eventually fulfilled through Christ. Salvation has always been about faith in God’s mercy, not just national identity.
